New to VidMate? This beginner-friendly guide walks you through downloading your very first video — from opening the app to watching it offline, step by step.
Before you start: what you need
You do not need much to get going. Just make sure you have:
- An Android phone or tablet
- An internet connection (Wi-Fi is best for large files)
- A few hundred megabytes of free storage space
- The VidMate app, installed from our official download page
Downloading your first video: step by step
Follow these steps and you will have your first offline video in under a minute:
- Open the VidMate app on your Android device.
- Find a video. Use the built-in search, browse the built-in browser, or paste a video link into the address bar.
- Tap the download button. When the video page loads, VidMate shows a red download icon — tap it.
- Choose a quality and format. Pick a video quality (for example 720p) or choose MP3 if you only want the audio.
- Wait for the download to finish. You can watch the progress in the download list, and pause or resume it at any time.
- Open your library. Finished downloads appear in the app’s download section, ready to watch offline.
Choosing the right video quality
VidMate lets you pick the quality before every download. A quick rule of thumb:
- 360p or lower — smallest files, fine for small screens and saving space.
- 720p — the sweet spot: sharp picture without huge files.
- 1080p and above — best quality for big screens, but files are much larger.
Where to find your downloads
All finished downloads live in one place inside the app, so you never have to hunt through folders. From there you can play videos with the built-in player, rename files, move them, or share them with friends — no internet needed.
A quick word on safety and rights
VidMate is a tool — how you use it matters. Only download content you are authorized to save, and respect the rights of creators. When in doubt, stick to content that is free to share or that you created yourself.
